USCIS Completes the H-1B Cap Random Selection Process for FY 2019

USCIS announced on April 11, 2018 that it has completed the computer-generated random selection process, or lottery, to select enough H-1B petitions to meet the congressionally-mandated number of petitions for regular cap and master’s cap for fiscal year (FY) 2019.

USCIS conducted the random selection process for the 20,000 master’s cap first. All unselected master’s cap petitions then became part of the random selection process for the 65,000 cap. USCIS will reject and all unselected petitions with their filing fees.

USCIS received 190,098 H-1B petitions during the filing period (first 5 business days of April from April 2 to April 6). Below chart illustrates the annual number of cap-subject H-1B petitions that USCIS received since 2013:
